Memorial Day Weekend 2010

Memorial Day Weekend is the time for all of us to show appreciation to those who have passed away during service. It is also the official kick-off to summer and a perfect opportunity for families to spend a long weekend having fun! From parades to military displays to pool parties and weddings, this weekend will surely be a busy one. The question arises often if having a wedding on a holiday or a holiday weekend is a good idea or not. The idea of it is very tempting for the couple that is searching for an unique and creative wedding ideas. but the question you will have to ask yourself is, is it more or less convenient for your guest to attend a wedding on a holiday? It is very important for the wedding couple to sit down and weigh all the pros and cons before committing to a wedding date during the holidays. So here are some we comparisons we found for you:

Pros-
  • Prices for wedding halls, catering, disc jockeys, etc. can sometimes be cheaper due to a lack of demand.
  • It is often easier for the couple and other family members to get time off around the holidays.
  • Often, family members who live some distance away are already planning to come into town for the holidays.
  • If you get married during holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, or Valentine's Day, the hall you are having the reception in will no doubt have lovely decorations up for your event - free of charge.
  • People are in the mood to celebrate during the holidays and thus a holiday wedding may be more likely to have a festive atmosphere.
Cons-
  • You and your future spouse will be busy during the holidays. Do you want to add a wedding on top of that?
  • Your families will be extremely busy during the holidays. Are they going to be willing to help with wedding preparations?
  • Will your guests be available during the holidays? Many people make plans for the holidays a long time in advance and may not like to change them.
  • If you have a lot of out of town guests, hotels and airfare can be more expensi
So, what are your thoughts about having a holiday wedding?

Shoes - Comfort vs Style

Fitting for the opening weekend of Sex and the City 2 (yay!), I got to thinking about shoes. Whether you lust for Jimmy Choos, Christian Louboutin, or Carrie's favorite, Manolo Blahnik, finding the right shoes for your wedding can make your special day a night to remember. After all, the last thing you want to be doing is resting your feet towards the end of the night because your shoes didn't fit correctly. From my experience, in the world of shoes, the more expensive a shoe is, the better the comfort. I have my fair share of nights where some of my shoes literally dug into my skin and left me with really nasty blisters. So now a days, I don't mind spending a little extra for comfort. Now I really don't think there's a huge difference in comfort between a $300 shoe versus a $1,000 shoe but if you can afford a $1,000 shoe, then why not buy it! So for the rest of us who want to get shoes that isn't going to break the bank but still want that special designer touch, here are some comparable shoes that could fit your budget.

Mother's Day Weekend

Normally we like to keep our blog postings related to events or weddings however I would like to take some time a recognize Mother's Day on Sunday. First off I would like to say Happy 1st Mother's Day to Mrs. Stephanie!! Stephanie and Kim welcomed their precious bundle of joy Kaylen to this world on March 16, 2010. Kaylen is loved and spoiled by many and is lucky to have such an amazing Mother and even though Kaylen is only 2 months old she'll soon realize that she is blessed to have such a wonderful mother just as I look up to and admire my mother Christina.

I would give anything to be so tiny and innocent again just like baby Kaylen and have no worries in life, but that is why our mothers are here to guide us, protect us, teach us, and love us. I have no doubt that Stephanie will offer everything in the world plus more to Kaylen just like my very own mother has done for me so far!! I hope to one day be able to raise and cherish a baby of my own and teach him or her everything that my mother has taught me over the years.

To my mother Christina Kelly:

Mother's Day brings to mind
The thousands of things you did for me
that helped make me happier,
stronger and wiser,
because I had you as a role model.

I'm grateful for all the times
you healed my hurts
and calmed my fears,
so that I could face the world
feeling safe and secure.

I'm thankful for all you showed me
about how to love and give--
lessons that now bring
so many blessings to me
each and every day.

Your sacrifices and unselfishness
did not go unnoticed, Mom.
I admire you, I respect you,
I love you.
And I'm so glad you're my mother!

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

Happy Mother's Day Stephanie!! I wish you the very best with Kaylen and I know she is in the best hands possible and she is so lucky to have you as her mother!

Love Ya,
Crystal Kelly
